STAGE 10

SANT FELIU DE GUIXOLS - SANTA CRISTINA D'ARO

Stage 10: SANT FELIU DE GUIXOLS - SANTA CRISTINA D'ARO

Leaving from in front of the convent we will go along Callao street, Ronda de Ponent and Pocher street following the GR-92 signs (red and white) that will accompany us in this first part of today's stage in which we recommend that you carry enough water, as there will be nowhere to get water.

Following the road, almost all of it uphill, after about 2 kilometres we will enter the Casa Nova housing estate.

At the top of the path the dirt track starts and we must be careful because after about 230 metres the GR-92 enters the forest on our right hand side. We must also be careful to follow the GR-92 and not the GR-92 1.

We will follow the GR-92 path for 4 kilometres until you reach the Puig de l'Avi plain (La Trencada crossroads). There we will leave it in the direction of the Sant Baldiri hermitage, located 360 metres away. Unfortunately, this hermitage has been abandoned and is almost in ruins.

In the past, on the saint's feast day, May 20th, a pilgrimage was held with music, which was attended by many of the inhabitants of Sant Feliu.

After mass, a large rice dish was prepared and sardanas were danced.

Afterwards, whoever wanted to, prayed the rosary and returned passing by the Monticalvari fountain, singing on the way back and dancing more sardanas as they passed by different farmhouses.

Here we will take the direction of Coll de Ceps where we will turn right, without taking any of the paths that appear on our left, until we reach Coll de la Canoca.

And from here we must be attentive, because after about 100 metres we must find the path that will take us to Plana Basarda, where there was an Iberian settlement indiketes inhabited between the 4th and 1st centuries BC.

To identify the entrance to this path, which is not signposted and is barely distinguishable, we can be guided by the sight of some eucalyptus trees.

We will follow it for about 300 metres and we will know we are in the right place when we will see a rectangular-shaped indentation in a rock.

The village of plana Basarda occupied an area of two hectares, and had one of its sides with little defence, so a wall was built on this part. It had a central street, a water cistern and some thirty underground silos for storing grain have been discovered.

Given the abandoned state of the village (covered by vegetation), we can barely see anything more than some of the holes (silos) that once held the grain of its inhabitants and contemplate the views from the highest part.

We will return to the main path along the same path and follow it in the same direction we came from. After about 400 metres there is a very steep turn-off to the right, but we must continue straight on.

Shortly afterwards we will come to another crossroads on our left, but we will also forget it and continue in the same direction for another kilometre. Here you should keep your eyes peeled for the Cueva de Sa Tuna on our right, which was artificially excavated during the time of the Indiketes.

It is located in a group of granite rocks, facing north-east; the entrance is a round hole of about 70 centimetres, but inside it the space is enlarged and can accommodate several people.

We will follow the path that leads to the PR-C-102 and shortly afterwards you will come across the Can Llaurador menhir.

Shortly after, before reaching the Can Llaurador farmhouse on our right, we come across the GR-92 1, which we leave after about 350 metres, following the PR-C-102 to our right, which will take us to the urbanization from the golf course of Santa Cristina de Aro.

There we will turn left along Canigó street and after half a kilometre we will cross under the C-65 road and we will enter the village along Ridaura Avenue, heading towards the church of Santa Cristina d'Aro, the end of the stage.
